A quick summary of week 1 results.
In 7 days, I exercised 6 and rested 1. Though tuesday was about a 1 and 1/2 hour hike of the tobacco trail with the kids stroller, backpack, etc. But I still managed to burn a fair amount of calories.
In total, just shy of 24 miles of SLOW running with a lot of recovery walking. I started the week at around 197 lbs. and Sunday AM was 192 lbs.
As it relates to diet, I've done pretty well. NO BEER with the exception of New Year's eve. I've pretty much cut out all breads / carbs, and more or less backed off of red meat. It's all been cereals, salads, fruit smoothies, tuna fish, egg white omelets, and yellow fin tuna steaks (on sale for $7.29/ lb at Harris Teeter.)
Tonights run I felt pretty good. My battery in my HRM was dead so I let it go a little. I sprinted until I was breathing pretty heavy, or my calves cramped, and I walked briskly to recover. I did Typical 4 ish mile loop in 39 min. vs. my regular 58 minutes. Tomorrow....Back to the discipline of the HRM, but it was fun while it lasted.
So in summary.....6 days, 24 miles, 5 pounds. No Pizza, No Burgers, no Bread.
What I didn't do......Get the bike out!
I'm planning to start to record what I'm eating and make an effort to count calories. Hopefully I'll have a simple format set up by the end of the week.

I have to say this is public because otherwise you may not believe me: I really think you are doing a GREAT job exercising, being careful with what you eat and registering in this awesome blog your achievements and your failures. I also have to say that no matter how many extra pounds you have I find you extremely attractive! You are a hot papa! =)
ReplyDeleteSo.. We (Liam, Sissy, Grace and me, your wife Cynthia) will continue supporting you in this fight against the scale by not buying crap and going with you for long walks and bike rides. We love you gordito! Keep up the good work! Love, Cynthia. PS. i wanted to post my comment as me but this computer did not allow it!.
Rock on in your battle with the bulge! How do you feel in terms of energy? Scott just started exercising, he feels sore, but energy is improving throughout the day now. He is planning to race in a sprint distance in Sept. Hopefully I can get him to log in & read your progress notes for inspiration. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI feel good in terms of energy, but have never really lacked it. My biggest hangup is that I miss eating CRAP food! But after a couple of weeks, its really ok. Tomorrow I plan on going crazy and waking up on Sunday with a major food Hangover so I'll have plenty of carbs for a great Long Slow Distance 2 hour funfest...... The biggest change is that I feel lighter on my feet and want to run faster. My HRM is indicating that, but I'm waiting for next weeks AT test to confirm my correct zones.
ReplyDeleteThat's great for Scott! He look's great. If he really get's into it he'll end up with rolling pecs and a sweet Cannondale!
